Three get life term in Pirojpur murder case

PIROJPUR, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced three people to 
life-term imprisonment in a murder case at Mathbaria upazila of the district 
in 2018.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months 
more in jail.

Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Mojibur Rahman delivered the verdict 
on Tuesday afternoon, said Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court Abul Kalam 
Akon.

The convicts are Md. Sohag Howlader, son of Shah Alam Howlader of Banshbunia 
village in Mathbaria upazila, Md. Sohag Mridha, son of Md. Monir Mridha of 
Boro Shaula village and Md. Shahin Mallik, son of Md. Aziz Mallik of Chhota 
Shaula village of the upazila.

Sohag Howlader was present in the court when the verdict was announced, but 
the other two accused are absconding. 

According to prosecution, Ariful Islam, 18, son of Anwar Mistry of Barashoula 
village of the upazila had been missing since he left his house at around 
3:30 pm on April 14, 2018. In the morning of April 18, police recovered the 
floating body of Ariful from a canal.

On the same day, the deceased mother Farida filed a case with Mathbaria 
Police Station.

Police initially accused 12 people on suspicion of involvement in the 
incident, but filed a charge-sheet in the court against three people who were 
convicted during the investigation, the PP added.
