BGMEA for faster, hassle-free customs bond services to boost apparel competitiveness

DHAKA, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged the authorities concerned to expedite and simplify customs bond-related services and provide essential policy support. 

The association mentioned that the goal of these measures is to help the apparel industry maintain its competitive capacity.

BGMEA today made the call while a three-member delegation, led by its Director Faisal Samad, met with Commissioner of the Customs Bond Commissionerate, Dhaka (North) Mia Md Abu Obaida at his office.

Additional Commissioner Edip Billah and Deputy Commissioner H.M. Ahsanul Kabir were also present during the meeting.
 
During the meeting, Faisal Samad handed over a letter signed by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan. 

This letter specifically urged both the Dhaka (South) and Dhaka (North) Bond Commissioners to facilitate the customs bond process and offer necessary policy assistance to the garment sector.

The core focus of the discussion centered on making customs processes fast, simple, and harassment-free, which is crucial for retaining the apparel industry's competitive edge.

During the meeting, Faisal Samad presented several specific demands to the Customs Bond Commissionerate, Dhaka (North). 

In response, Mia Md. Abu Obaida stated that several important steps would be taken to simplify the export activities of the apparel industry and ensure a favorable business environment.

He confirmed that instructions have already been given to the relevant officials to make customs services faster and easier.
