Massive tree plantation to combat pollution stressed in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) – The Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and also the Divisional Commissioner, Md Firoz Sarkar, today stressed the need for massive tree plantation to combat pollution.

“Environmental degradation is caused by our own activities. We must refrain from actions that lead to ecological disasters,” he said, highlighting climate change as not only a global challenge but also one deeply linked to people’s daily lives.

He made the remarks at a daylong workshop on “Environmental Conservation and Measures to Address Climate Change” at the conference room of the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Khulna. The Khulna Divisional Administration, in collaboration with the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), organized the event.
Chaired by Professor Dr. Shah Alam, Director of the National University’s Khulna Regional Center, Abu Sayeed Md. Monzur Alam, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development), delivered the welcome speech.

Md. Ariful Islam, Deputy Director of Local Government at the Khulna DC Office; Md. Sadikul Islam, Director of the Department of Environment; and Md. Anisuzzaman Sikder, Director of the Islamic Foundation, addressed the audience as special guests. Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadeq Ahmad, Deputy Managing Director of PKSF, presented the keynote paper.

It was revealed that PKSF has already completed 38 projects, while 12 projects are currently ongoing—focusing on climate adaptation and environmental management in Bangladesh’s vulnerable coastal belt.

Government officials, NGO representatives, teachers, civil society members, and religious leaders participated in the workshop.
