Mother, daughter among three killed in Sunamganj road accident

SUNAMGANJ, Sept 26, 2025 (BSS) – Three people, including a woman and her daughter, were killed in a road accident in Shantiganj Upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased were identified as Abadita Keshoba Priya, 40, of Ukilpara in Sunamganj Municipality; her daughter Prothoma Chowdhury, a seventh-grade student of Satish Chandra Girls High School; and Sajal Ghosh, 50, of Nabinagar area of the municipality.

Abdul Ahad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shantiganj Police Station, said the accident occurred around 7:10 am when a truck collided head-on with a CNG-run autorickshaw on the Sylhet–Sunamganj regional highway at Shatrumardan Bagherkona village in Pashchim Pagla Union under the upazila. Abadita and Sajal died on the spot.

Prothoma was rushed to Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Police arrested the truck driver, the OC added.
