CHATTOGRAM, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested Riyad Hasan, husband
and founding director of Bangladesh Online Madrasa, in a dowry case filed by
his wife under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandgaon Police Station Md Jahedul Kabir said
police arrested Riyad Hasan, 25, on Friday night from the Chandgaon area of
the city based on an arrest warrant issued in the case.

Riyad, a native of Rahmatpur Birampur in Sunamganj district, was living in
the Khaja Road Bolir Hat Pakka Shop area under Chandgaon Police Station.

According to the case statement, Riyad married the complainant on December
14, 2023, under Islamic Sharia law. A dowry of Taka 20 lakh was agreed upon,
of which Taka 3 lakh was paid in cash and Taka 17 lakh remained unpaid.

The case alleges that the accused regularly subjected his wife to physical
and mental abuse over dowry demands. When she refused to pay additional
money, he allegedly forced her out of their home.

The woman later took shelter at her father's house and filed the case after
family efforts for reconciliation failed.

Police said Riyad Hasan was produced before the court on Saturday.
