Grandmother, grandson drown in Faridpur river

FARIDPUR, Sept 26, 2025 (BSS) - An elderly woman and her grandson drowned while bathing in the Kumar River at Bhashan Char in Ambikapur Union of Faridpur Sadar Upazila on Thursday afternoon.

Another grandson of the woman remained missing in the incident.

Locals said a 70-year old woman named Maleka Begum from Bhashan Char village went to bathe with her two grandsons, aged seven to eight.
 
Before evening, the bodies of grandmother Maleka Begum and her grandson Towsif Mridha were found floating in the river and were recovered by locals. 

The deceased child Towsif is the son of Zahurul Islam Tota.Family members said another grandson of the woman, Sowad Mridha, is missing in the incident. Sowad is the son of Sarfuddin Mridha.

According to locals, divers of the Fire Service and Civil Defence searched Sowad in the river from afternoon to evening but did not find.
