SHERPUR, Sept 26, 2025 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a consignment of Indian contraband goods including foreign liquor, phensedyl, and cosmetics from the Sherpur border area this afternoon.

Based on secret information, BGB members conducted separate early-morning drives in the border areas of Sreebardi and Nalitabari upazilas of the district. The smugglers were reportedly using innovative ways to traffic various Indian products including foreign liquor, phensedyl, and branded cosmetics into Bangladesh, said Lieutenant Colonel Md. Mehedi Hasan, Commanding Officer of BGB Battalion-39 in Mymensingh through a press release.

BGB recovered the items in an abandoned condition. The seized contraband goods include 16 bottles of Indian liquor, 87 bottles of phensedyl, 1,430 pieces of Johnson’s baby shampoo, 1,680 pieces of Pond’s face wash, and 960 pieces of Nivea soft cream.

However, no arrests were made as the smugglers managed to flee the scene.

The estimated market value of the seized goods is approximately Tk 13 lakh, Mehedi Hasan informed.
