Durga Puja begins with Maha Shashti in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 28, 2025 (BSS) - Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of 
the Hindu community, has begun across the Khulna City and District amid due 
religious fervour and festivity.

The five-day celebration began with invocation of Goddess Durga on the day of 
Maha Shasthi.

This year, Durga Puja is being celebrated at 981 mandaps, including 120 in 
Khulna city. 

Law enforcement agencies have adopted extensive security measures to ensure 
peaceful celebrations.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md. Tawfiqur Rahman said steps were taken to keep 
the festival peaceful, including increased patrols, plainclothes deployments, 
and a crackdown on disruptive activities such as drug abuse.

The district administration has finalized immersion points in Khulna city 
including Jailkhana Ghat, Charerhat, Religate, Nagarghat, Daulatpur Launch 
Ghat and Daulatpur Dadhi Bamanghat, he added.

General Secretary of city unit Puja Udjapon Parishad Prashanta Kumar Kundu 
said a total of 981 puja mandaps have been set up in the metropolis and all 
nine upazilas of the district.

Hindu community members and people from all walks of life were already seen 
crowding around the temples and puja mandaps to see their Goddess.

KMP Commissioner Md Zulfikar Ali Haider said members of law-enforcement 
agencies have started to visit each puja mandap today.
 
Mahalaya, the auspicious occasion heralding the advent of the Goddess Durga, 
was celebrated on September 21.
