BAGERHAT, Oct 1, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard has stepped up security in coastal areas of Khulna, Bagerhat, and Satkhira to ensure the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said tonight that the force is working to safeguard lives, religious establishments, and public property in connection with the Hindu community's biggest religious festival.

He said the Coast Guard West Zone is providing security at 44 puja mandaps across coastal regions including Rupsha, Koyra, and Dakop (Khulna), Mongla, Sharankhola, and Morelganj (Bagerhat), and Shyamnagar (Satkhira).

"The Coast Guard is fully prepared to prevent any kind of sabotage or untoward incidents during the festivities," he said.

To ensure public safety, the Coast Guard is also conducting awareness campaigns, warning against overloading boats, urging use of life jackets, and advising non-swimmers to avoid boarding boats during idol immersion. A special diving team will remain on standby to respond to any emergencies such as boat capsizes.

"We want the peace-loving Hindu community to celebrate Durga Puja safely and joyfully," Siam-ul-Haq said, adding that these security and safety measures will remain in place until the day of idol immersion.
