PIROJPUR, Oct 17, 2025 (BSS) – A mobile court here sentenced two fishermen to jail and destroyed 4000 metre of Hilsha catching net.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) of the upazila Sudipto Debnath sentenced the fishermen to 17-day imprisonment. 

Earlier, the Fisheries Department in Kaukhali upazila conducted the drive led by fisheries officer Hafizur Rahman to protect mother Hilsha on Sandhya river and arrested the two fishermen on Thursday night.

The fisheries department also seized 4,000 metres of net, two fishing boats and 5 kg of hilsa fish from their possessions. 

The recovered fish were distributed to orphanages, the seized net was burnt and two boats were destroyed in the river.
