Khulna conference stresses fair remuneration for khatibs, imams

KHULNA, Oct 25, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at an Imam conference here today emphasized ensuring fair remuneration for khatibs, imams, muezzins, and khadems in accordance with the mosque management policy, and making moral and religious education compulsory at all levels of the national curriculum.

The observation came up at the Imam conference held at the Khulna Circuit House ground under the initiative of the Khulna District Imam Parishad.

The conference focused on the role of imams in establishing peace, harmony, and justice in society.

Chaired by Maulana Mohammad Saleh, president of the district committee of the Imam Parishad, Allama Mufti Jasim Uddin, Assistant Director General of Hathazari Madrasa in Chattogram, addressed the event as the chief guest. Maulana Muhibbullahil Baqi Al Nadvi, Senior Imam of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, delivered the keynote speech.

More than 2,000 imams and muezzins from various upazilas across the district participated in the gathering. Leaders of upazila-level Imam Parishads also spoke at the event.

The conference also called for reforms in mosque management committees based on the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah, empowering imams to play an active role in building mosque-centered communities, and taking visible legal action against those who show disrespect toward Allah, the Prophet (PBUH), the Qur'an, or Islam.

They also urged for stopping the ongoing genocide in Palestine through a permanent ceasefire.

Allama Mufti Jasim Uddin highlighted the vital role of imams in upholding social order, unity, and justice in the country.
