CUMILLA, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS) - A joint operation by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Cumilla District Administration was conducted on Monday to protect patients and their relatives from fraud and harassment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
During the drive, a mobile court sentenced 10 individuals to 20 days’ imprisonment for their involvement in illegal brokerage activities.
The operation, held between 12 noon and 2 pm., was led by Executive Magistrate Nowroz Qoraishi Dripta of the Cumilla District Administration, with assistance from RAB-11, CPC-2, Cumilla.
A total of 14 people were detained from the hospital premises and nearby areas. After preliminary interrogation, 10 were found guilty and sentenced them to 20 days jail sentences by the mobile court.
According to RAB officials, the raid followed secret intelligence reports that a group of brokers had long been deceiving patients and disrupting medical services through illegal commissions, unauthorized patient transfers, and financial fraud.
The operation aimed to restore discipline and ensure fair healthcare services at the hospital.
The convicted individuals are Md. Sohel, 30, Md. Tajul Islam, 32, Md. Nasher, 36, Md. Emon, 21, — all from Kuchaitoli area of Cumilla Sadar Upazila, Mahbubur Rahman, 28, of Tetowara area, Md. Zakir, 43, of Charpatti area, Mahmud, 40, of Chapapur village, Md. Aladin of Chiora area under Chouddagram Upazila, Md. Apu, 34, of Rajapara area in Sadar Dakshin Upazila and Abdul Aziz of Uttar Aziz Fazilpur area in Daganbhuiyan Upazila of Feni.
Following the operation, Executive Magistrate Nowroz Qoraishi Dripta told reporters that a broker syndicate had been active at the hospital for a long time. “Brokers have no place in the hospital premises. Such drives will continue regularly,” he said, adding that the district administration will strengthen supervision both inside and outside the hospital to improve healthcare quality and protect patients.
