CHATTOGRAM, Nov 4, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has stated that legal action, including eviction drives, will be taken against anyone starting hawker businesses at the New Market intersection before 4 pm.

The mayor said the New Market intersection is a vital commercial area where no one will be allowed to occupy roads or sidewalks by setting up permanent structures in the name of hawker business.

He added that hawkers will be permitted to operate there after 4 pm and must use movable carts or handcarts.

Dr. Shahadat made the remarks while leading an eviction drive at the New Market intersection on Tuesday morning. He directed that all illegal and permanent setups be removed and urged traders to keep their business areas clean.

He also directed that umbrellas used by hawkers must not obstruct pedestrian movement and warned that legal measures will be taken against those who occupy sidewalks and cause inconvenience to the public.

Special Magistrate Md. Shoaib Uddin Khan, Executive Officer Abhishek Das, and officials from the cleanliness department were present during the drive.
