Signed by Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md. Toufiqur Rahman, the notice was issued today.
In the notice, strict restrictions have been imposed on the operation of hotels and restaurants without proper registration and licensing.
The notice stated that some individuals and establishments have been operating businesses without obtaining licenses, which is a violation of existing laws and deprives the government of revenue.
Under the Essential Commodities Control Act, 1956 and the Essential Commodities Control Order, 1981 (Sections 22(1) & (2)), businesses involving iron and steel products, cement, fabrics (wholesale), yarn (wholesale/retail), dairy food, and cigarettes (wholesale distributors), as well as gold trading under the Gold (Collection, Storage and Distribution) Order, 1987 (Section 5(1)), must obtain licenses to operate businesses as per the law.
The administration has urged all concerned traders to acquire necessary licenses immediately, warning that legal action will be taken against violators.
Similarly, under the Bangladesh Hotel and Restaurant Act, 2014 (Section 7), no hotel or restaurant may operate without registration and a valid license.
The notice further mentioned that some unlicensed establishments are continuing operations in violation of Sections 8 and 10 of the same Act, resulting in government revenue losses.
The administration called upon all hotel and restaurant owners to obtain licenses on an urgent basis, failing which legal measures will be enforced.
