Six smugglers held with Burmese goods in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 7, 2025 (BSS) - A team of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has arrested six alleged smugglers along with Burmese goods worth about Taka 26 lakh from Patenga outpost area in the district.

On a tip-off, the BCG team conducted an anti smuggling operation in Patenga area last night and arrested the smugglers along with the smuggled goods brought from Myanmar evading customs duty, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed today.

The team seized 12,500 packets of cigarettes, 45 sarees and other goods worth about Taka 26 lakh brought from Myanmar without customs duty, he added.

The process of handing over the seized goods and the arrested people to the concerned authorities for further legal action is underway, the BCG official said.

He further said that Bangladesh Coast Guard will conduct such operations in future to prevent smuggling in the area.
