SYLHET, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive death-row convict from Purba Jaflong area under Gowainghat upazila of the district yesterday.

Acting on secret information, a team of RAB-19 along with a company of the Habiganj unit arrested Fazal Miah, son of late Ashab Ali of Adityapur village under Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj district, from the area on Sunday.

RAB officials said Fazal Miah hacked his mother to death on October 29, 2005, over a trifling matter and fled the scene.

Following the incident, his brother Abdur Rashid filed a murder case with Nabiganj Thana.

After completing trial proceedings, a Habiganj court awarded Fazal Miah the death penalty.

The arrested convict was later handed over to Nabiganj Thana for further legal action.
