One arrested with arms, drugs in Raozan

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 23, 2025 (BSS) - Police on Saturday night arrested a suspected criminal and recovered firearms, ammunition, and yaba tablets during a raid in Raozan upazila.

The arrested, Abu Syed, also known as Ripon, 37, son of Shawkat Akbar Chowdhury of Janalihat area in Sultanpur Ward 4 of Raozan Municipality has 15 cases pending against him in various police stations. 

Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the arrest during a press briefing at the police station today at 11 am.

According to police, Ripon has long been involved in criminal activities including drug trafficking and carrying illegal firearms. He was apprehended from Sarkarpara area of Sultanpur union following a surveillance operation based on confidential information.

Police recovered five rounds of pistol bullets, 20 pieces of yaba tablets, and TK 1,000 in cash from him at the time of arrest. 

Acting on his disclosure, law enforcement also seized a country-made LG firearm with a wooden butt and four shotgun cartridges from Kalur's cattle farm behind Khawaja Garibe Newaz Engineering Workshop in the same area.

A case was registered under the Arms Act at Raozan Police Station and two additional cases were filed against then accused under the Arms and Narcotics Control Act.
