SHERPUR, Nov 28, 2025 (BSS) - Following an action by a mobile court here, two hunters, who were involved in hunting and trapping birds, have been released on bond condition that they will no longer kill birds.

The arrested are fish farmer Shamiul Islam, 36, and his neighbouring uncle Abdur Rahman, 85.

This development highlights the successful efforts of local conservationists to protect the region's avian population.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at a fish farm in the Mirganj Uttar Para area of the municipality. The mobile court was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sherpur Sadar Ishteaque Maznun Ishti.

During the operation, an illegal bird-trapping device, a dead egret and a dead kingfisher were seized. Later, the dead birds were buried.

"With the onset of winter, flocks of various migratory birds are arriving in the area, and several species of resident birds are also being hunted indiscriminately. The two accused were released after pledging not to kill birds again," said Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ishteaque Maznun Ishti.

According to the mobile court, the upazila administration conducted the raid after receiving reports of long-term indiscriminate bird killing at the fish farm. As the allegation was found to be true, the two were warned and granted general clemency upon signing the bond.

Authorities said that in the future, anyone involved in such activities will face action under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012.
