56 candidates file nominations for six constituencies in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Dec 29, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 56 candidates have filed their nomination papers for six parliamentary constituencies in Rangpur amid festive atmosphere ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, slated for February 12, 2026.

Candidates from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Party, Bangladesh Congress, BSD (Marxist), and several other political parties, along with independent contenders, submitted their nomination papers.

Returning Officer and Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan confirmed the matter to BSS on Monday night.

According to district administration sources, nominations were filed in all six constituencies of the district. Of them, nine candidates submitted papers in Rangpur-1, five in Rangpur-2, 10 in Rangpur-3, 11 each in Rangpur-4, Rangpur-5 and Rangpur-6. Earlier, 61 candidates had collected nomination papers for these constituencies.

A festive atmosphere prevailed across the district on the final day of nomination submission, as candidates arrived with their leaders and supporters.

According to the election schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted from December 30 to January 4, 2026. Appeals against decisions of the returning officers may be filed from January 5 to January 9, with disposal of appeals scheduled from January 10 to January 18.

The last date for withdrawal of candidacy is January 20, while the final list of candidates and allocation of election symbols will be published on January 21. Election campaigning will begin on January 22 and continue until 7:30 am on February 10.
