
DHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is currently passing through a critical phase of her illness, her personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said early today.
“The former Prime Minister is going through a very critical time at this moment,” Dr Zahid told reporters at around 2:15am at the main gate of Evercare Hospital in the city.
He said Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital since November 23.
He said several members of Khaleda Zia’s family have gathered at the hospital amid the health crisis.
They include her son and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Syeda Sharmila Rahman, Khaleda Zia’s elder sister Selina Islam, younger brother Shamim Iskander, Tarique Rahman’s daughter Zaima Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko’s daughter Zahia Rahman.

Many of them are still staying at the hospital, he added.
He informed that a medical board is closely supervising Khaleda Zia’s treatment.
The board comprises Dr Shahabuddin Talukdar, Professor Dr FM Siddiqui, Professor Dr Nuruddin Ahmed, Professor Dr Ziaul Haque, Professor Dr Brigadier General Saifur Islam, AZM Saleh, Dr Zafor Iqbal, Dr Masum Kamal, Professor KM Mohsin, and Professor KM Reza.
In addition, several specialists from abroad are providing virtual consultations, including Professor Dr Patrick Teneri, Professor Dr Jennifer Cross, Professor Dr Richard, Dr Mohammad Habib-ur Rahman, Dr Rafiquddin Ahmed, John Hamilton, and Hamid Rob from the UK and the USA.
Dr Zahid said a meeting of the medical board was held earlier in the morning to review her condition.
On behalf of Khaleda Zia’s family, he requested the nation to pray for her recovery.
