KHULNA, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS) - BNP-nominated candidate for Khulna-2 constituency Nazrul Islam Manju said former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia established herself as a role model for democracy, development and the protection of people's rights through her courageous and selfless leadership.

He said Khaleda Zia earned a permanent place in people's hearts for her patriotism, dignity and unwavering commitment to democratic values, adding that despite prolonged imprisonment and adverse political circumstances, she never showed any vindictive attitude.

Manju made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting and doa mahfil organised by the Boro Bazar Raw and Finished Goods Traders' Association on Saturday afternoon, seeking eternal peace of Begum Khaleda Zia's departed soul. Business leader Sheikh Asadur Rahman presided over the programme.

He said Khaleda Zia was a distinctive figure in Bangladesh's politics, known for her refined sensibility, liberal vision and dignified leadership, adding that her contributions would remain eternally etched in the nation's history.

Manju further said the ideals left behind by Begum Khaleda Zia would continue to inspire future generations. Following those ideals, he said, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman would build a prosperous and democratic Bangladesh with the support of the people.

"There is no alternative to Tarique Rahman to move the country forward," he added.

Earlier, after Zuhr prayers, Manju spoke as the chief guest at a doa mahfil organised by the Hardmetal Gallery Hardware and Machinery Merchants Association, where Ferdous Ahmed conducted the prayers.

Later, after Asr prayers, he addressed another doa mahfil and discussion meeting organised by the Labanchara Rice Mill and Chira Mill Owners' Association of Ward No-31. The programme was presided over by Yasin Arafat and conducted by HM Aslam Hossain.
