RAJSHAHI, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS)- Two members of the 'Six Star Group' have been arrested in an army operation in Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi.

The operation was carried out early Friday morning in the Mathurapur area of Taherpur Municipality. During the operation, a walkie-talkie set and a rifle were recovered from the two arrestees.

The arrestees are Abdul Halim, 29, and Abu Bashar, 27, both residents of the Mathurapur area under Taherpur Municipality.

According to law enforcement sources, they are active members of the 'Six Star Group'.

Police said that a team led by Major Asif Raihan, the officer in charge of the Bagmara Army Camp, conducted the operation in the Mathurapur area of Taherpur early Friday morning.

Abdul Halim and Abu Bashar were arrested from their respective residences during the operation. At that time, a walkie-talkie set and a .22 rifle were recovered from their possession.

After the operation, army personnel handed over the two arrested individuals to the police of Bagmara Police Station.

According to law enforcement agencies and local sources, the 'Six Star Group' emerged in the Taherpur area after August 5, 2024.
 
They used walkie-talkie sets to move around the area and exert influence. They are also accused of being involved in various criminal activities, including controlling local activities such as pond excavation.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagmara Police Station Saidul Alam said that police assisted in the final stage of the operation.

The two arrested individuals were handed over to the police station on Friday morning. The allegations and details of the crimes against them are being verified. After completing the necessary legal procedures, a case was filed and they will be sent to court.
