
BAGERHAT, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - The two-day 'Election Journalism Training' for local journalists aimed at enhancing the professional skills of journalists ahead of the upcoming general elections ended today.
The closing ceremony was held at the Zilla Parishad Auditorium at 12.30 pm. The programme was jointly organised by the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten attended the event as the chief guest, while President of the District Press Club Abu Sayeed Shunu presided over the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said elections are a participatory and democratic process involving political parties, the administration, law enforcement agencies, election observers, civil society and the media.
He stressed that coordinated and responsible roles of all stakeholders are essential to ensure fair, free and acceptable elections.
Highlighting the role of the media, he said journalists are the voice of the people and must maintain impartiality, professionalism and ethical standards while reporting during elections.
During the two-day training, a special discussion session titled "Referendum: The Key to the Country is in Your Hands" focused on the importance of voting rights and elections. The training covered key issues including types of election reporting, election-time news coverage, physical and digital security of media personnel, and the duties and responsibilities of journalists.
At the end of the programme, certificates were distributed among the participants.
PIB Coordinator Zilhaj Uddin Nipun, Senior Reporter of The Daily Star Md. Baharam Khan, Senior Reporter of Ajker Patrika Md. Humayun Kabir, General Secretary of the District Press Club Hedayetul Islam Liton, and BSS District correspondent Azad Ruhul Amin were present at the event.
A total of 50 journalists from various print and electronic media outlets of the district took part in the training.
