BGB arrests man with gold bars worth over Tk 77 lakh in Maheshpur

JHENAIDAH, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has 
arrested an individual along with five gold bars while attempting to smuggle 
them into India from Maheshpur in the district.

The arrestee has been identified as Faisal Hasan Shishir, 26. 

The arrest took place on Friday afternoon during a search operation at a BGB 
check post on the Khosalpur Bridge. Officers recovered four large gold bars 
and one small gold piece concealed on Shishir's body.

The total weight of the seized gold is 358.84 grams, with an estimated market 
value of Taka77,52,412  according to a BGB press release. 

The mobile phone and bicycle used by the suspect have been handed over to 
Maheshpur Police Station. 

Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan confirmed that Shishir will be placed before 
the court, and the recovered gold is being processed for deposit into the 
government treasury through BGB.

BGB officials stated that the operation was conducted based on secret 
intelligence, highlighting their ongoing efforts to curb cross-border 
smuggling.
