Banani godown fire doused after swift response by firefighters

DHAKA, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - A fire that broke out in a cork seat and hardboard godown on the fifth floor of a five-storey building at Chairman Bari, Banani of the capital, was successfully brought under control this evening.

According to media officer of Fire Service Anwarul Islam, the incident occurred at around 7:05pm today. 

Firefighters received the news at 7:07pm and immediately reached the scene.  Four firefighting units from Kurmitola and Baridhara fire stations rushed to the location and began rescue operations upon arrival at 7:22pm.

After nearly half an hour of intensive efforts, the blaze was fully controlled at 7:54pm, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. 

No casualties were reported immediately, Islam confirmed.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be determined, the fire official said.
