SUST student drowns in Lalakhal

SYLHET, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has drowned in the Lalakhal Zero Point area, a popular tourist spot in Sylhet. 

The deceased, Mohammad Musab Amin, 28, was a student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department of the 2022-23 academic session and was the son of Mohammad Shahidur Rahman from Sokhipur village in Kaliakair of Gazipur.

According to witnesses, Musab went missing at around 1pm on Friday in the Lalakhal Zero Point area. Immediately after the incident, locals and authorities attempted to locate him.

At 4pm, a rescue operation by the Fire Service and diving team recovered his body and was rushed to the Jaintapur Health Complex, where doctors announced him dead.

Sources from the police and local residents said Musab Amin drowned in the area near Sahebmara Drawer in Lalakhal. 

Following the report, teams from the Jaintapur Fire Service and Jaintapur Model Police Station conducted a search and found his body. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Police Station, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Mollah, confirmed the incident. 

"The dead body would be sent to the morgue after completing the formalities," he said.
