CHATTOGRAM, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) - The holy Shab-e-Barat, the night of forgiveness and fortune, was observed across Chattogram with due religious devotion and solemnity on Tuesday night.

Various religious organizations, including the Chattogram branch of the Islamic Foundation, organized nightlong programmes such as discussions, Milad, and Zikir Mahfils to mark the occasion.

Muslim devotees spent the night offering special "Nafl" prayers at mosques and homes, reciting the Holy Quran, and participating in Milad and Zikir gatherings, seeking Allah's blessings for forgiveness, peace, health, prosperity, and success. They also prayed for the eternal peace of their departed parents, forebears, and loved ones.

Many devotees visited the shrines of saints, offered prayers for salvation, and distributed sweets and traditional foods such as ruti and halwa among the poor, neighbors, and friends. They also prayed for the well-being of the nation and the Muslim Ummah.

Improved meals were served at jails, hospitals, orphanages, and juvenile centers under the social welfare department's supervision. Local newspapers published special articles, while Chattogram units of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar aired programmes highlighting the significance of the holy night.

Law enforcement agencies implemented tight security around mosques and shrines to ensure smooth observance of prayers. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), and district police maintained constant vigilance to prevent any untoward incidents.

The CMP also banned the use of fireworks and the carrying of explosives or firecrackers on the occasion.
