
RANGAMATI, March 2, 2026 (BSS) - Turmeric seeds and fertilizer were
distributed at free of cost among small and marginal farmers in Longadu
upazila of the district under the 2025-26 fiscal year incentive programme
aimed at increasing the production of Kharip-1 seasonal turmeric.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jahangir Hossain formally distributed the agro-
inputs at the Upazila Agriculture Office grounds on Monday afternoon.
Under the programme, a total of 35 farmers received 100 kilograms of Bari
variety turmeric seeds and 10 kilograms of fertilizer each to support
expanded cultivation during the Kharip-1 season.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Wasif Rahman, LGD Officer Engineer Shamsul Alam,
Upazila Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana ALM Sirajul Islam, Mainimukh Union
Parishad member Mizanur Rahman (Babu), Deputy Assistant Plant Protection
Officer Ratan Chowdhury, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers and family
members of the beneficiary farmers were present at the distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, UNO Jahangir Hossain said the government is working
relentlessly for the development of agriculture and the welfare of farmers.
Various support programmes are being implemented to increase the production
of spice crops, particularly in the hilly areas, to make farmers financially
self-reliant, he said.
The UNO also directed field-level agricultural officers to strengthen
guidance and provide necessary technical supports to ensure proper
cultivation and higher yields.
