Fugitive convict arrested in Cumilla

CUMILLA, March 3, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a special drive arrested a fugitive who was sentenced to life imprisonment in a drug case in Chauddagram upazila of the district.

According to RAB officials, an operational team from RAB-11 conducted a raid in Satgharia area of Chauddagram Model Police Station on Tuesday night. Acting on a tip-off, the team successfully apprehended the fugitive, identified as Md. Aslam Mia, 50.

Company Commander of RAB-11, Major Sadman Ibne Alam, confirmed the arrest and provided details of the operation.

Md. Aslam Mia is the son of the late Nuru Mia, a resident of Satgharia village in Chauddagram. He had been on the run since being sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in a drug-related case. After the court's verdict, he had gone into hiding to evade punishment and had been living in various parts of the country.

Following a tip-off, RAB launched the operation, which led to his arrest. Legal action is currently being taken to enforce the court's sentence against the arrested fugitive.
