Fisherman killed in lightning strike in Sylhet

SYLHET, March 16, 2026 (BSS) – A fisherman was killed in a lightning strike while fishing in the Dholai River in the Natunbazar area of Companyganj upazila of the district last night.

The deceased was Ram Chandra Talukder, 55, son of Mohananda Talukder of Dharmapasha upazila in Sunamganj district.

Quoting locals, police said that while Ram Chandra was fishing in the river around 9 pm, a thunderbolt struck him, leaving him dead on the spot.

Companyganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam Khan confirmed the incident, saying the body has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
