Fisherman’s body recovered from Tentulia river in Patuakhali

PATUAKHALI, March 22, 2026 (BSS) - The body of fisherman Bablu Sikder, 65, who had gone missing in the Tentulia River in Bauphal upazila of the district, has been recovered.

A diving team recovered his body from the river near the Mominpur Gazi Bari ghat area of Keshabpur union in the upazila.

Bablu Sikder was a resident of Sikder Bari in Ward No. 4 of Dhulia union. He had been fishing in the Tentulia River for livelihood for a long time.

According to locals, on Saturday, the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, the boat he used for fishing was suddenly swept away by a strong tidal current while it was tied at the river ghat. 

He jumped into the river to bring the boat back. At one point, he lost balance due to the strong current and waves and drowned, going missing.

After the incident, locals immediately conducted rescue efforts but could not find him. Later, upon receiving the information, a diving team arrived at the scene and launched an operation. His body was recovered after about 24 hours.

In this regard, Dhulia Union Parishad’s acting chairman Md. Zahirul Islam said, “Such an accident on the day of Eid is extremely painful. It has cast a shadow of mourning over the entire area.”
