Man electrocuted while fishing in Bogura

BOGURA, March 22, 2026 (BSS) - A man has died after being electrocuted while fishing around 5:30 pm in Saghatiya village under Rameshwarpur Union of Gabtali upazila in the district.

The deceased was identified as Shahinur Islam, 45, son of the late Tofazzal Hossain Tojam of the same village, said Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzaq of Gabtali Model Police Station.

According to him, Shahinur Islam was catching fish by draining water from a nearby ditch using a submersible pump beside his house. After finishing the work, he accidentally came in touch  with an electric wire while arranging it, resulting in electrocution.

Locals noticed the incident and rushed to rescue him and took him to  Gabtali Upazila Health Complex, but he died on the way.

Police visited the scene after being informed, and necessary legal procedures are currently underway.
