
KISHOREGANJ, March 26, 2026 (BSS) - Thousands of pilgrims gathered along the banks of the old Brahmaputra River in Hossainpur upazila of the district today to observe the Ashtami Snan Festival, a significant religious occasion for the Hindu community.
Devotees from across the region began arriving at dawn to take part in the ritual holy bath, believed to cleanse sins and bring divine blessings. The number of participants steadily increased throughout the morning, with the ceremony continuing until around 1:00 pm.
People of all ages—including children, adults and the elderly—joined the programme turning the riverbanks into a vibrant gathering of faith and devotion. Many attendees expressed a deep sense of spiritual fulfillment and peace after participating in the ritual.
The event was organized by the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Hossainpur Upazila and Municipal branches, with overall support from the local administration.
Authorities implemented special security arrangements to ensure a safe and orderly environment. Law enforcement personnel, along with volunteers, were deployed throughout the venue.
Local Member of Parliament Md. Mazharul Islam, who visited the site, emphasized that such religious celebrations reflect the country’s tradition of communal harmony. He assured continued administrative support for the peaceful observance of such events.
Hossainpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kazi Nahid Eva said that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure the safety and comfort of devotees, adding that authorities remained vigilant throughout the programme.
Devotees also shared their sentiments. Tapan Chandra Das, who attended with his family, said he participates in the ritual every year and finds spiritual peace in doing so. Another participant, Puja Rani Biswas, said that many people travel long distances in the belief that the holy bath brings forgiveness and divine grace.
Among others present were Upazila BNP convener Md. Zahirul Islam Mobin, Officer-in-Charge of Hossainpur Police Station Mohammad Rashedul Islam, and former general secretary of Kishoreganj District Puja Udjapan Parishad, Pradeep Kumar Sarkar, along with other local dignitaries.
