58 Freedom Fighters honored in Barishal on Independence Day

BARISHAL, March 26, 2026 (BSS)– Fifty-eight heroic freedom fighters at the district level were honored today in recognition of their contributions to the Liberation War.

The ceremony, organized by the District Administration and the Ministry of Freedom Fighters’ Affairs, was held at the Shilpakala Academy in the city at 11 am here.

Delivering the chief guest’s speech, Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, said, “26th March is the nation’s greatest day of pride.The day when the people broke the chains of subjugation and stood firm.”

He prayed for the eternal peace of those who sacrificed their lives on this day in 1971,dreaming for an independent state.

Speakers at the event noted that the independence has been achieved to safeguard the motherland from violent fundamentalism, and to advance progress, welfare, and economic prosperity.

Following the discussions, Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman presented commemorative awards to the 58 freedom fighters of Barishal district.

Barishal Deputy Commissioner Md. Khairul Alam Suman chaired the event.

Barishal Range DIG Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Police Superintendent A.Z.M. Mostafizur Rahman, and freedom fighters K.S.A. Mohiuddin Manik (Bir Protik) and Nurul Alam Farid also spoke on the occasion.
