Bagerhat felicitates freedom fighters on Independence Day

BAGERHAT, March 26, 2026 (BSS) - A reception and discussion meeting was held in Bagerhat on the occasion of Independence Day and National Day in honor of the freedom fighters and the family members of the martyred freedom fighters. 

The reception and discussion meeting was organized by the district administration at the Zilla Parishad Auditorium at 11 am today. 

Bagerhat District Freedom Fighter Unit Command Convener Bir Muktijoddha Md Akbar Azad presided over the program, which was attended by Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten as the chief guest, Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Mohammad Md. Hasan Chowdhury, Bagerhat Municipal Administrator Dr. Fakrul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarbika Mejbah Uddin as special guests. 

In addition, the member secretary Muktijoddha Ekramul Kabir, Muktijoddha, Sadar Upazila convener Khandaker Nowsher Ali, and municipal convener Asim Dakua spoke.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Deputy Commissioner Md. Baten said, “The great independence is the greatest achievement of our nation, which came through the infinite sacrifice, courage, and self-sacrifice of the brave freedom fighters"

"Their contribution should never be forgotten. We all have to work together to convey the spirit of the Liberation War to the present and future generations.” 

He also said, “The family members of the martyred brave freedom fighters are a source of our pride and inspiration. The state is determined to ensure their highest respect. The government is working tirelessly for the welfare of the freedom fighters and their families through various developmental programs.”  

 Bagerhat District Freedom Fighter Unit Command Convener, Veteran Freedom Fighter MD Akbar Azad, urged the young generation to know the correct history of the Liberation War and said, "Everyone should build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh as dreamed by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, inspired by patriotism, honesty and responsibility."  

At the event, floral greetings and honors were given to the heroic freedom fighters and martyred family members.  

In addition, the speakers in the discussion meeting highlighted the significance of the great Independence Day and urged everyone to play an active role in building the country by being imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War.  

Earlier, the district administration, police administration, political parties, various professional organizations, press clubs, BNP, and all offices, courts, government and private institutions, including the flag hoisting ceremony, were held at the Dashani Freedom Fighter Memorial.
