PUST celebrates Independence Day with grandeur

PATUAKHALI, March 26, 2026 (BSS) – The 56th Independence and National Day was celebrated today at Patuakhali University of Science and Technology (PUST) with due respect and patriotic fervor.

The day’s programmes included hoisting of flag, wreath-laying, Independence Day rally, colorful processions, discussion sessions, competitions for children and adolescents, prayers, and other commemorative activities.

At 10 am, the national flag was hoisted in front of the university administration building, followed by wreath-laying at the central Shaheed Minar at 1.30 am, paying tribute to the nation’s bravest sons who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War.

PUST U-TAB General Secretary and Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S.M. Hemayet Jahan led the celebration.

University authorities, including U-TAB President and Basic Science Department Professor Dr. Md. Mamun Ur Rashid, members of the university’s Board of Regents, deans of various faculties, Provost Council members, U-TAB, Zia Parishad, PUST Chhatra Dal, Rover, ESDM Club, Badhon, and other organizations also placed wreaths in homage.

A discussion session was held in the conference hall of the Faculty of Agriculture.

PUST Independence Day Celebration Committee President and Basic Science Department Professor Dr. Md. Mamun Ur Rashid presided over the discussion session.

Speakers at the programme included Faculty of Law Dean Professor Md. Jamal Hossain, Faculty of Agriculture Dean Professor Zahirul Haque, Professors Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Dr. Md. Nizam Uddin, Dr. Masudur Rahman, Dr. Kamal Hossain, Dr. Shahidul Islam, Dr. Khokon Hossain, Assistant Registrar Md. Riaz Kanchan Shaheed, Mahmood Al Zaman, Lokman Hossain Mithu, Shahadat Hossain Nantu, and staff members Bellal Hossain and Md. Mosharaf Hossain.

As part of the day’s observances, prayers and munajat were held at the central mosque after Zohr, and a special prayer ceremony took place at the central temple at 12 pm.
