Two children drown in Narail's Chitra River

NARAIL, March 28, 2026 (BSS) - Two children went missing after drowning while 
bathing in the Chitra River at Mahishkhola village in Panchgram Union under 
Kalia upazila of the district today.

One of the children, 6-year-old Rafia, was later found dead, while efforts 
continue to locate the other child, 7-year-old Arya.

According to police and local sources, the incident occurred on Saturday 
afternoon when Rafia, the daughter of Enayet Sheikh of Mahishkhola village 
and Arya, daughter of Abdullah Sheikh, went to bathe in the Chitra River near 
their home. At some point, both children were swept away by the river's 
strong current and drowned.

After hours of searching, Rafia's body was found near the Jadavpur Kheyaghat 
area. Rescue efforts are still ongoing to locate Arya.

Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Idris Ali confirmed the 
matter and said the body of Rafia had been recovered and that search 
operations are continuing for Arya.
