One held with 29-kg touchstone idol in Panchagarh

RANGPUR, April 2, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 seized a 29-kg Vishnu idol made of precious touchstone and arrested a man from Khagerhat Dhanmandal village under Debiganj Police Station in Panchagarh district.

The detainee was identified as Md Chan Mia, 36, son of Md Suruj Ali of the village, said a press release signed by RAB-13 Senior Assistant Director (Media) and Additional Superintendent of Police Biplab Kumar Goswami today.

According to the release, acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-13 Crime Prevention Company (CPC)-2 from Nilphamari camp raided a house in the village and seized the touchstone idol and arrested Chan Mia at around 5:10 am on Wednesday.

The seized Vishnu idol, measuring 31 inches by 13 inches, is estimated to be worth around Taka 87 lakh.

A case was filed in this connection, and the arrested person along with the seized idol was handed over to Debiganj Police Station, the release added.
