Four still missing in Sundarbans boat capsize incident

SATKHIRA, April 10, 2026 (BSS)- Four honey collectors still remained missing in the incident of boat capsize on April 6 last at Kanchikata area in Sundarbans in storm.

Forest department of Satkhira Range   rescued four honey collectors from a place near Huldibunia forest patrol outpost in the evening of April 7. They were taken to the Burigoalini Forest Station yesterday. 

The rescued persons- Sabur Khan, Monirul Islam, Al Mahmud Sheikh, and Yunus Ali, all from Godara area of Shyamnagar upazila.

The missing individuals are- Akbar (son of Amir Molla), Oliur Rahman (son of Ohid Molla), Mikail Hossain (son of A. Rahman Gazi), and Ikramul Kabir (son of Ayub Ali), all from the same area.

Fazlul Haque, officer of the Burigoalini Forest Station said the group had entered the forests on April 1 with valid permits to collect honey. 

Their boat caught in the storm on Monday night, he said adding four have been rescued so far, while four remained missing. 

He said the matter has been reported to Shyamnagar Police Station, the Coast Guard, and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
