PM’s Adviser Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir visits Rajshahi Silk Factory

RAJSHAHI, April 10, 2026 (BSS) - Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Prime Minister's Adviser on the Ministry of Finance and Planning, visited the Rajshahi Silk Factory here today.
 
During the visit, he toured all the units of the factory and observed their operations closely. 
At that time, the Adviser to the Prime Minister Rohan Asif Asad was present as a companion on the visit.
 
Director General of the Bangladesh Silk Development Board Toufiq Al Mahmud briefed the adviser on the current condition of the factory and its activities.
 
The advisers also visited the showroom and showed keen interest in observing the traditionally produced 100 percent silk products of Rajshahi, including Garad silk fabrics, Panjabi cloth, Matka silk, and Balaka silk.
 
Responding to a question from journalists at the government silk showroom, the adviser said that Rajshahi silk is a GI (Geographical Indication) product and is appreciated worldwide. 
He emphasized the need to expand the marketing of the traditional silk products. 
He also noted that work needs to be done on improving the design of the fabrics and overall management.
 
During the visit, senior officials of the Bangladesh Silk Development Board were present, including Directors Dr. M. A. Mannan and Nasima Khatun, along with other high-ranking officials.
