
NARAIL, April 13, 2026 (BSS) - Aiming to reintroduce the century-old tradition of rural Bengal to the young generation, a colorful festival of Lathikhela (stick fight) was held at the Sultan Mancha premises on the Govt Victoria College campus here this afternoon.
The event drew large crowds from different parts of the district. Dariapur 'Lathikhela Dal' in Narail participated in the event, showcasing their skills in the traditional stick-fighting, locally known as Lathikhela.
Hundreds of spectators enjoyed the display of stick maneuvers, performed in synchronization with the rhythmic beat of traditional drums.
The lathials (stick fighters), equipped with colorful costumes and batons, enthralled the audience with their energetic performances.
"I really enjoyed the stick-fighting play," said Onaisa Osmi, a student of Narail Govt Girls Secondary School.
"The way they moved to the beat of the drums and clashed the batons was amazing," she added.
Narail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) T M Rahsin Kabir said the festival plays a significant role in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of rural Bangladesh.
He said such festivals also enhance communal harmony and emanates the message of unity among people.
Narail deputy commissioner Dr Md Abdul Salam, district council administrator freedom fighter Mostafizur Rahman Alek and additional police super Noor-E Alom Siddiqee, among others, were present at the festival.
