THAKURGAON, April 14, 2026 (BSS) - Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year 1433, is being celebrated in Thakurgaon today amid colourful arrangements and a festive atmosphere.

The day began with a cultural ceremony at the city courthouse in the morning, where artists from the local cultural organisation Nikwan Sangeet Vidyalaya performed a range of musical presentations, including Ragabhairavi.

The programme area echoed with Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, folk songs, Bhawaiya and recitations, while participants dressed in red and white added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Later, a colourful Baishakhi Shobhajatra was brought out under the initiative of the district administration, with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque, District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poygam Ali and representatives of various social, cultural and educational organisations participating.

A day-long Baishakhi fair, rural sports events and cultural programmes are also being held.

The potters' quarters in Kumarpara also remain busy on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, with colourful clay crafts and Baishakhi products reflecting Bengal's traditional heritage and adding vibrancy to the celebrations.

Organisers said Pahela Baishakh is not just a festival but a symbol of Bengali culture, tradition and unity, as people mark the day with renewed hope and a resolve to leave behind past sorrows.
