"Feeling happy to be celebrating Pahela Baishakh in Sirajganj after 20 years": Mahmood

SIRAJGANJ, April 14, 2026 (BSS) - Power, Energy and Mineral Resources minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, MP, has expressed his joy and gratitude after celebrating Pahela Baishakh with the people of his hometown after nearly 20 years.

“Pahela Baishakh is a festival close to the hearts of Bengalis,” he said, adding that he felt blessed to once again celebrate the occasion with the people of Sirajganj after a long time,” he said.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a colorful Baishakhi fair at Sirajganj Government College ground this afternoon. 

Extending his greetings to the residents of Sirajganj and the entire country, he expressed hope that the Bangla New Year would bring happiness and prosperity to all.

Among those present at the procession were Sirajganj district BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu, Principal of Sirajganj Government College Md. Mahidul Hasan, Vice Principal Md. Humayun Khalid, Teachers’ Council Secretary Ferdousi Ara, Assistant Teacher Md. Saidul Islam, along with teachers, students, and guardians.

The celebration began with the national anthem, followed by a vibrant procession. 

At the outset, a lively Baishakhi rally was brought out from the college premises, parading through SS Road, Boropul, and other parts of the town before returning to the starting point.

Participants in the procession were seen dressed in traditional red and white attire, reflecting the spirit of the festival. 

The rally featured vibrant displays including violins, symbolic doves of peace, decorative elephants and horses, colorful masks, and various elements of rural heritage and Bengali folk culture, creating a festive and culturally rich atmosphere.

The event drew significant public participation and showcased the enduring traditions of Bengali culture.
