Police constable commits suicide in Khulna

KHULNA, April 18, 2026 (BSS) – A police constable died in an alleged suicide incident at the Khulna Railway Police Lines early today.

The deceased was identified as Constable Samrat Biswas (BP No: 9918214929). 

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 4.30 am while he was on duty at the armory (magazine guard) area.

On receiving the information, the Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Khulna Railway District, along with members of Sonadanga Police Station under Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), rushed to the scene.

Police said the matter is being treated with importancy and is currently under investigation.

Local sources also reported that the deceased constable’s wife, Puja Biswas, is a female police member serving in Satkhira district.

However, the exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed. Police said detailed information will be disclosed after the investigation is completed.

When contacted, Khulna Railway Police Superintendent Ahmed MainulHasan said Samrat Biswas was the son of Shailen Biswas of Padmabila village under Kashianiupazila in Gopalganj.

He joined the unit on November 3 last year and was known for his good conduct, the SP added.

“He was on duty from 4 am to 6 am. At around 4.30 am, he allegedly shot himself by placing his issued Chinese rifle against his head,” he said.

The family members have been informed, and further investigation is underway, the SP added.
