KHULNA, April 18, 2026 (BSS) - Abul Khayer, an accused in the murder case of tea stall owner Din Mohammad in Rupsha upazila, has confessed to his involvement in the killing before a Khulna court.

He gave the confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on Friday, according to a Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) press release.

Earlier, PBI members arrested him from the Upashahar area under Jashore Kotwali Police Station on the night of April 16.

According to the press release, the incident occurred on March 17 afternoon following an altercation over payment of Tk 400 for meat. Abul Khayer allegedly picked up a brick from the roadside and struck Din Mohammad on the head in the Anandnagar-Bhabanipur area of Rupsha upazila.

The injured Din Mohammad was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he died the same night.

A murder case was later filed with Rupsha Police Station.

PBI sources said the accused went into hiding after the incident and worked at a brick kiln in Narail district. On April 13, he took shelter at the residence of a relative in the Upashahar area of Jashore.

During interrogation, Abul Khayer admitted to striking the victim with a brick, which led to his death. He later repeated the confession before the court, the PBI said.

PBI stated that the accused had been evading arrest by avoiding the use of mobile phones and staying out of contact with family and locals.

However, a skilled PBI team managed to arrest him nearly 30 days after the incident.
