3 sentenced to death for raping housewife in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, April 23, 2026 (BSS) - A Jamalpur court today sentenced three men to death for raping a housewife in 2023.

The convicts were Bulbul Ahmmed, 45, son of late Sofir Uddin of Khupibari village, Kalam, 50, son of late Kabez Uddin, and Ruku, 55, son of late Dukhu of Pathalia village under Jamalpur Sadar upazila.

Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1, Muhammad Abdur Rahim, delivered the verdict after examining 10 prosecution witnesses, medical reports and other relevant documents.

Public Prosecutor Advocate Md Fazlul Haque confirmed the judgment. At the time of the verdict, Bulbul and Ruku were absconding.

According to the prosecution, the victim, the second wife of her husband used to run a tea stall in front of Shah Jamal Mazar in the town. The accused had long been making indecent proposals to her.

On May 14, 2023, at around 10 pm, when the victim was returning to the tea stall, the accused forcibly took her by an auto-rickshaw to Bulbul's house at Khupibari, where they raped her one after another. Later, they took her to Ruku's house, where she was assaulted again.

The victim managed to escape around 3:30 am and informed her husband.

Following the incident, a case was filed and police later submitted a charge sheet against the accused.
