BGB seizes huge Indian sarees in Cumilla border

CUMILLA, April 30, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large consignment of Indian sarees and three-piece garments worth over Taka 1.14 crore during an anti-smuggling drive in Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila.

The drive was conducted in the border-adjacent Himmatpur area by a patrol team from BGB Cumilla Battalion (10 BGB) on Wednesday night.

Acting on intelligence, the BGB personnel carried out a special operation against smuggling and narcotics, recovering the goods along with an abandoned vehicle.

According to BGB officials, the seized items-found without any claimant-have an estimated market value of Taka 11,440,000. 

The confiscated goods have been handed over to the customs authorities in accordance with legal procedures.

Commanding Officer of Cumilla Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz, said that BGB continues to conduct regular operations to curb smuggling and cross-border crimes in the area. 

He added that such drive will remain ongoing to strengthen border security.
