MOULVIBAZAR, Apr 30, 2026 (BSS) — The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has provided relief materials and financial assistance to families affected by a pre-monsoon rain, locally known as “Jhumul,” and a severe nor’wester storm in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar district.

The relief distribution took place on Thursday afternoon in the border areas under Phultala union, specifically in Birain Tola and Phultala slum areas, according to a BGB press release.

The initiative was taken by BGB’s Beanibazar Battalion (52 BGB), targeting distressed and vulnerable families impacted by the recent natural calamity.

Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ataur Rahman Sujan, personally supervised the distribution.

Assistant Director Mahfuzur Rahman was also present during the distribution

According to officials, a powerful nor’wester storm accompanied by heavy rainfall struck the area on April 28, causing extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.

Many houses were either destroyed or severely damaged, while fallen trees blocked roads and disrupted normal life.

In response, the Beanibazar Battalion distributed relief packages among 45 affected families in the border areas under the jurisdiction of Phultala BOP.

Each package included 4 kg of rice, 2 kg of potatoes, 500 grams of puffed rice, 500 grams of flattened rice, 2 litters of purified water, 500 grams of salt, and 5 packets of oral saline.

Local residents expressed appreciation for BGB’s timely and humanitarian support, acknowledging the force’s role beyond border security.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt. Col. Ataur Rahman Sujan said that BGB remains committed to standing beside people during emergencies and disasters, alongside its primary duty of safeguarding the borders.

He reaffirmed that such humanitarian efforts will continue in  future.
