SANGSAD BHABAN, April 30, 2026 (BSS) - Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare A Z M Zahid Hossain today said that the Bangladesh
Nationalist Party (BNP) has always stood beside the people and worked for the country's development and welfare.

Taking part in the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President's speech in Parliament today, he highlighted the contributions and patriotic leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

At the outset of his speech, he appreciated the President's address, saying that it appropriately reflected the country's real situation. Quoting that
"the process of correction and learning is limitless," he thanked the President for his speech.

He said that in 1971, when many were confused and directionless, Ziaur Rahman boldly declared the country's independence and later directly participated in
the Liberation War.

The minister said that after independence, Ziaur Rahman did not seek any position or power; rather, he served as a disciplined soldier, which he
described as a 'rare example' of patriotism.

Referring to the context of November 7, 1975, he said that in such critical juncture, the nation placed its trust on Ziaur Rahman, who then assumed
leadership and successfully steered the country forward. Under his leadership, he added, "Bangladesh overcame famine and despair and began to
move towards stability and progress,"

Highlighting his role in economic development, Zahid Hossain said that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman made significant contributions in initiating
remittance inflows, laying the foundation of the readymade garments sector, and improving agriculture and production systems.

He also noted that Ziaur Rahman played an important role in establishing discipline in the administration and uniting the people.

The minister further said that through the concept of "Bangladeshi nationalism," Ziaur Rahman promoted unity among people of different religions, castes and communities.

Referring to his contributions to women's development and the social sector, he said that the establishment of the Directorate of Women Affairs and the
Ministry of Women Affairs, as well as the introduction of the Independence Award and the Ekushey Padak, were initiated during his tenure.

Praising BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, he said she strengthened the party through her patriotic and uncompromising leadership and made notable
contributions to women's education and social development.

He also highlighted the expectations of the current generation, saying that people now demand employment, fair prices and an improved standard of living.
Therefore, he stressed, greater attention should be given to solving people's real problems rather than engaging in political disputes.

AZM Zahid Hossain also expressed hope that Bangladesh would move further ahead if all political forces work together in unity.
