
DHAKA, June 1, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury said voluntary organizations alongside the government should come forward to help build moral values in society.
The state minister said the role of voluntary organisations in social welfare and humanitarian activities is extremely important.
Yasser Khan made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the banquet session of the 6th Annual District Convention of Lions Clubs International District 315A3 here today.
He said organisations dedicated to public welfare are playing a significant role in social development and the establishment of humanitarian values, but their scope of work needs to be further expanded.
He added that international service organisations like Lions Clubs are bringing positive changes in society through activities in education, health, environmental protection and humanitarian assistance.
He called for stronger engagement of both government and non-government voluntary organisations in the country's development process.
The State Minister suggested that teaching moral values to school-going children could be an important initiative so that they grow up with honesty and principles.
District Governor Mohammad Bellal Hossain presided over the event, while Convention Chairman Advocate Md. Riazul Haque Bashir delivered the welcome speech.
The programme began with recitation from the Holy Quran, the national anthem and oath-taking. A documentary highlighting the service activities of the district and various clubs was also screened.
The results of the district elections were officially announced at the event.
The District Governor-elect, First Vice District Governor-elect and Second Vice District Governor-elect were also formally introduced at the event.
Leaders of various levels of Lions Clubs, members, guests and invited persons attended the programme.
